The White House - Blog Post - Health Reform and Small Business I’m always surprised when people create such blatant chart junk. The chart here conveys the following piece of information “33% of the uninsured are small business workers”. That’s all the chart conveys, and by putting the information into a chart they’ve made it harder to understand: the chart separates the description (“Small Business Workers”) from the datum (“33%”), requiring you to match the colors to figure out the connection, and detracts from that information with the superfluous “Others” and “67%”, which convey no additional information but do require extra cognition to process. Sigh. Wish I knew who made this chart. I’d send them one of my extra copies of Tufte.
